In Stavropol Territory, case against ex-policemen, accused of violence, brought to court

The criminal case against former district militia inspectors, accused of using violence against Vyacheslav Merekha, a resident of the Stavropol Territory, was brought to the Predgorny District Court.

At night on December 14-15, 2010, Vyacheslav Merekha, the resident of the farm yard of Kalaborka, was detained in a state of alcoholic intoxication near his house by militia officers of the OVD (Interior Division) of the Predgorny District and was taken to the police station. Later, it became known from social moderators of the southern Russia that there, he was subjected to moral and physical pressure.

Vyacheslav Merekha is 44 years old; at present, he is unemployed, and he has a 10-year-old son. According to Natalia Spiridonova, a cousin of the victim, his relatives intend to seek for a just sentence for former militia officers. According to the woman, at present, the health state of Vyacheslav Merekha is satisfactory. "He underwent three serious surgeries, and as a result of the incident, the man just became disabled," she said.
