The town of Poti in the West of Georgia is flooded as a result of a pelting rain

Tonight as a result of a shower the seaport of Poti in the West of Georgia was flooded. The central streets got under water and the traffic was hampered. Today reconstructive works have been going on in Poti since morning. Power supply upset by the rain is reestablished, Mayor’s office of the town reported.

“The flood strengthened for the rain caused shutdown of power supply and the pumps were disabled”, Tengiz Khazalia, Chief of the rescue service of Mayor’s office of Poti, said. “After power supply was cut off a failure in the work of the pump house occurred and several streets in the town were flooded. Streets in the neighbourhood of Kundzuli were injured most of all. The fault condition is now set right and the pump house is functioning again”, he added.

Local residents say that submergences as a result of rains are caused by poor functioning of sewerage, among other factors.

“Sewerage has also been a problem in our street because nobody ever cleans it, local resident Nani Kvaratskhekia aged 55 says. – That is why we were flooded even more this time. The cellars and first floors in my neighbours’ house are under water”.

“The first floor of my house is flooded, all the furniture got damaged. The vegetable garden is flooded, either. Such things happen every year and we have no protection against these rains”, resident of the town Guram Mchedlidze said.
