The last day of the Olympics brought the athletes of the Caucasian regions three medals
Within the framework of the last, sixteenth day of the Olympic Games in London, August, 12, athletes from the countries of Southern Caucasus and the South of Russia won three medals of different value. Wrestlers from Georgia and Azerbaijan won three “bronzes” and a girl native of Kalmykia brought the combined team of the Russian Federation a gold medal within the combined team of modern rhythmic gymnastics.
On the last day of the Olympic Games in London Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler, native of North Ossetia Khetag Gaziumov (96 kg), won a bronze medal in the competition. In this way, he brought the Azerbaijani combined team the tenth medal at the Olympics.
Gaziumov was expected to compete with Reza Yazdani from Iran for the “bronze” but in connection with a trauma the Iranian athlete refused to participate in the event, so, the representative of Azerbaijan was declared winner in this pair.
The Russian combined team in modern rhythmic gymnastics took the first place in group all-round events at the Olympic Games in London. Alina Makarenko from Kalmykia was member of this team.
Georgian wrestler Georgy Gogshelidze won the bronze medal in free style wrestling category under 96 kilogram.
