Azerbaijan sent humanitarian aid to people injured by the earthquake in Iran
Azerbaijan sent two batches of humanitarian aid to people injured by the severe earthquake in Iran which happened last Saturday, August, 11, in the province of Eastern Azerbaijan.
Over 300 persons perished and thousands got wounded as a result of the earthquake in Eastern Azerbaijan. The epicenter was located in 56 kilometers distance to the South-West of the Iranian city of Tabriz. The earthquake intensity was registered five on the Richter scale. The intensity of earth tremors in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh made 3 to 4,5. The Azerbaijani territories of Lankaran, Masalla, Lerik, Salyan, Bardy and Mingyachevir underwent tremors of 2 to 4,5.
The population of the district where the earthquake happened are generally ethnic Azerbaijanis, the “Caucasian Knot” correspondent reports.
At night of August, 13, a motorcade of 25 trucks with three thousand blankets, one thousand sets of bed linen, 460 tents, foodstuff (tea, sugar, flour, macaroni, juices, drinking water and other articles of prime necessity) started from Baku to Iran, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan reports.
The day before, August, 12, Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic sent three trucks of humanitarian aid to the earthquake zone.
