Residents of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh feel earthquake shocks

At 4:15 p.m. local time, residents of Yerevan felt strong underground shocks, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports. At the moment, there is no information about the victims.

In total, Yerevan experienced shocks of 3-4 points of magnitude. Shocks of 4.5 points were registered in the Armenian cities of Agarak, Meghri, Kajaran and Goris.

The strongest shocks were felt near the town of Kapan. According to the records in the social network Facebook, Kapan residents went out into the streets.

As reported by the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) of Armenia, the epicentre of the earthquake of the magnitude of 6.6 point was located 16 kilometres off the Iranian city of Agar, where destructions were registered; the places and scale thereof are now specified.

Within one hour, residents of Stepanakert felt more than five series of shocks. Amalia Babayan, one of them, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the first three shocks were very strong; therefore, she took her children and ran outside; however, then the tremors became weak; so, she went back to her everyday activities.

"At home I felt no floor under my feet. I saw the chandelier and the wardrobe swinging and ran out into the street. I think that the earthquake was stronger than they say," said the woman.

A tractor driver, who worked in Saroyan Street in Stepanakert, said that he could understand nothing, because he was at work, but when he saw people running out into the streets, he understood that something had happened. "The fear in people, especially in women, was strong," he said.

Strong aftershocks were felt by residents of the Gadrut District, located on the border with Iran.

Gagik Sarkisyan, a resident of the district centre Gadrut, is sure that the earthquake shocks were stronger than six points. "We had strong tremors. Even stones fell in some places; therefore, I think that shocks were strong. We even thought that the epicentre was in Gadrut," said Sarkisyan.
