Nino Burjanadze's party refuses to participate in parliamentary elections in Georgia

The oppositional party headed by Nino Burjanadze, a former parliament's speaker, and named "Democratic Movement – United Georgia" will not take part in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

According to Ms Burjanadze, her party has gone through all the procedures and was registered among 41 parties wishing to participate in the elections; however, at this stage they decided to give up their political ambitions in order "not to interfere with each other in the oppositional wing and take away each other's votes."

"This decision in no way assumes a boycott of the elections; moreover, any termination of the struggle on the part of our organization," the "News-Georgia" quotes the statement of the party released on August 9.

At the same time, the "Democratic Movement" has called on all citizens of Georgia to take part in the elections of October 1 and support the oppositional forces, the "Georgia Online" writes.
