Search for militants in Vedeno District of Chechnya complicated by mountainous terrain

So far, the search for members of the armed underground conducted in the mountainous Vedeno District of Chechnya for the third day already has yielded no results. Power agents do not exclude that militants could escape from the blockaded area.

A group of up to four militants was found on August 7 near the village of Guni, Vedeno District, in Southern Chechnya, in the course of a joint special operation, conducted by special units of the Interior Troops of the Russian MIA and local law enforcers. In a shootout with the militants two power agents were wounded.

"The operation continues. It is possible that the criminals could leave the searched area and change location, or that they are hiding in some carefully camouflaged hideout," a source from local power agencies told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to his story, it is very difficult to find a few people in the forest; besides, they perfectly know the terrain. "It's like finding a needle in a haystack," said the source.
