Azerbaijani boxer Teymur Mammadov wins Olympic bronze

Today, Teymur Mammadov, an Azerbaijani boxer in the weight category of up to 91 kg, lost the Olympic semi-final in London to the Italian Clemente Russo. However, he received a bronze medal of the Olympics.

Despite the fact that the 19-year-old Mammadov won the first two rounds – 3:2 and 6:4 and twice sent his opponent into knockdown in the second round; Russo – the silver medallist at the Beijing Olympics – was much stronger in the final round. The Italian won the third round at 9:4 and secured the total victory of the fight – 15:13.

Mammadov was decorated with a bronze medal, because according to the rules, a bronze match is not held; and both semi-final losers receive bronze medals.
