Volunteer Andrei Mareev who helped flood victims dies in Krasnodar Territory
Andrei Mareev, 39, who had come from St Petersburg to help local residents affected by the catastrophic flood, has died in the volunteers' camp set up in the settlement of Nizhnee Bakanskoye, Krasnodar Territory.
Andrei was unloading gravel, when he felt bad and later died on the hands of ambulance doctors, said Eduard Tikhenko, the organizer and coordinator of the camp.
The doctors began rehabilitation activities, but doctors could not help him; and only stated the biological death, which came quickly. The reason is not known yet, as examination results are not ready," the Radio Liberty quotes Mr Tikhenko as saying.
According his story, Andrei Mareev had gone through two Chechen campaigns and never shunned hard work.
Andrei Mareev arrived from St Petersburg with a group of volunteers. He took part in construction of two bridges over the Temryuchka River. In St Petersburg he worked as a teacher of the basics of life safety, the "Russian News Service" reports.
Locals come to the camp to say farewell to Andrei and to express condolences.
