Oleg Shein challenges decisions of Astrakhan District Courts to reject cancellation of Mayor election

Oleg Shein, ex-candidate for the position of Mayor of Astrakhan, filed appeals against decisions of the Courts of the Kirov, Lenin, Soviet, and Trusovsky District of the city of Astrakhan on dismissal the claim for cancellation of the election, held on March 4.

On March 4, 2012, in the single day of voting, Astrakhan held elections of Russian President, additional elections to the State Duma and early election of City Mayor. According to the official information, Mikhail Stolyarov won the mayoral election, supported by 60 percent of the voters. However, the "Spravedlivaya Rossiya" (Fair Russia) Party refused to admit the outcome of the election of Astrakhan Mayor, since the Party believed that its representative Oleg Shein won the election.

On June 15, the Kirov District Court of Astrakhan refused Oleg Shein in granting his claim on the cancellation of the election and suggested the plaintiff to challenge the violations by the Districts in four courts of the regional centre. On June 27, Oleg Shein filed new claims to the courts of the Lenin, Kirov, Soviet, and Trusovsky Districts. On July 19, it was announced that all the District Courts dismissed the claims.

According to Alexander Nesterenko, who represents the interests of Oleg Shein in the Courts, the appeals were filed late last week. The lawyer refused to provide more precise information on the date of filing of the complaints.

"We will know the date of appointment of the court hearings on appeals closer to September, in accordance with the rules on appeal consideration," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was explained by Alexander Nesterenko.
