Azerbaijani athlete wins silver medal in women's wrestling at Olympic Games

Maria Stadnik, an Azerbaijani athlete, won the silver medal at London Olympic Games in women's wrestling in the weight category of 48 kg.

24-year-old Maria Stadnik has won three competitions; however, in the finals, she was defeated by Khitomi Obare, seven-time World Champion from Japan. Despite winning the first round with the score of 4:0, Mariya Stadnik lost in the second part with the score of 0:1. Khitomi Obare won in an additional third round with the score of 2:0.

According to Magomed Aliomarov, the coach of Mariya Stadnik, in the finals, she was short of the physical training.

"Stadnik start a fight well. She was active in the first round. I do not understand why she did not continue in the same style and instead began to attack the Japanese athlete? Her opponent just waited for that. Mariya should have waited for a moment, since the Japanese athlete had to attack. However, Stadnik decided to attack itself and lost the gold medal. She was short of 'physical strength', and the Japanese athlete was stronger in that component," the website "azerisport.com" quotes Magomed Aliomarov as saying.

This is the second Olympic award for Mariya Stadnik, a native of Ukraine. She won the bronze medal at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.
