Wrestlers from Azerbaijan win two medals at Olympics
Rovshan Bairamov, an Azerbaijani wrestler of Greco-Roman style (55 kg) has won the silver medal at London Olympic Games, having been defeated in the finals by Khamid Mohammed Soriano Reikhanpuru, a representative of Iran. Emin Akhmedov, another Azerbaijani wrestler of Greco-Roman style (74 kg) has won the bronze medal.
Rovshan Bairamov started with 1/16 of finals and in two rounds with identical scores of 1:0 and 1:0 he defeated Mingiyan Semenov, a Russian athlete from Kalmykia, who later became the bronze medallist of the Olympic Games. In the 1/8 of finals also with the identical, but the large scores of 4:0 and 4:0, Rovshan Bairamov defeated Thomas Mango, an American athlete.
In the quarterfinal, Rovshan Bairamov competed with Lee Shuzhin from China. The Azerbaijani athlete also defeated the wrestler with the score of 3:0 and 2:0. In the semi-final, Rovshan Bairamov defeated Guidzhin Choi from Korea with the scores of 1:0 and 2:0.
Emin Akhmedov started the competitions with 1/8 finals, and in his first competition he defeated Neven Zhugai from Croatia with the scores of 4:0 and 1:0. His next competitor was Zurab Datunashvili from Georgia: having been defeated in the first part of the fight with the score of 0:3, Emin Akhmedov won in the second and third rounds with the scores of 3:0 and 4:0.
In the semi-finals, Emin Akhmedov was defeated by Arsen Djulfalakyan from Armenia with the scores of 0:2 and 0:3. In the fight for the bronze medal, in a bitter battle Emin Akhmedov defeated Alexander Kikinev, a Belarusian athlete, in three rounds with the scores of 2:1 (0:2, 2:1, 1:0).
