"Armenian General Benevolent Union" to allocate 1 million US dollars to Syrian Armenians

The "Armenian General Benevolent Union", one of the largest charitable organizations of the Armenian Diaspora (Boston, the USA), has decided to allocate 1 million US dollars for providing the necessary humanitarian assistance to Syrian Armenians.

"In Syria, the aggravation of armed conflict has caused a serious humanitarian crisis in the regions with large Armenian population: Aleppo, Damascus, and Qamishli. Some families have already suffered damage as a result of clashes between government and opposition forces," emphasizes the statement that the "Armenia General Benevolent Union" issued on August 6.

In accordance with the decision of the charitable organization, the amount will be directed to the Armenian communities in Aleppo, Damascus, and Qamishli to coordinate providing assistance to families in need, regardless of their location.

The "Armenia General Benevolent Union" has also expressed its willingness to assist in the accommodation of Armenians, who left Syria. In particular, the leaders of the Foundation do not exclude the possibility of granting temporary asylum to Syrian Armenians in Cyprus.
