Minister for Diaspora Matters: 800 families of Syrian Armenians have bought real estate in Armenia

Granush Akopyan, Minister for Diaspora Matters of Armenia, has told reporters that most of the Syrian Armenians are waiting for stabilization of situation in Syria aiming to go back. Along with that, as she said, in recent years 800 families of Syrian Armenians have bought real estate property in Armenia.

At the initiative of the above Ministry, one of schools in central Yerevan has launched the training courses in the Eastern Armenian language, said Ms Akopyan. The courses are aimed at liquidating the language barrier for the Syrian Armenians, who have decided to continue their education at Armenian schools and universities.

Also, the Government of Armenia is organizing summer vacations for 300-400 children of Syrian Armenians. Besides, many Armenian families have expressed their willingness to accept Syrian children.

As for Armenian citizenship, in January-May 2012, according to the Department for Passports and Visas of the Police of Armenia, about 2700 Armenians from Syria expressed their desire to get it.
