In Dagestan, relatives of person, accused of committing major road traffic accident, demand his immediate hospitalization

Abam Khizriev, detained resident of Dagestan, accused of committing a major road traffic accident, is in serious condition and he needs urgent hospitalization. This is stated by his relatives. According to them, Abam Khizriev swallowed a tablespoon to express his protest, and the investigatory authorities refute the statements of the detainee's relatives.

At present, Abam Khizriev is still kept at the temporary detention facility (IVS); his family members filed a complaint to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Dagestan against the actions of the IVS personnel.

Abam Khizriev was detained for taking part in the road traffic accident, in which two persons perished. According to the detainee's family members, he swallowed the spoon "because of an unfair investigation."

"They try to present Abam as the person, principally guilty of the accident, although the driver of the other car entered the opposite line. And at the time of the road traffic accident he was not drunk, as the indictment stated. That was either a way to commit suicide or an attempt to draw public attention to the unfair one-sided investigation of the case," said a relative of Abam Khizriev, who preferred to remain anonymous.

According to Adilgerei Omarov, the guilt of his client is not proven. "The fact is that till present, the circumstances of the road traffic accident have not been revealed, which would definitely allow instituting criminal proceedings against Abam Khizriev. In that situation, both drivers were wrong," the lawyer said.

According to a source in the investigatory authorities of the Kizilyurt District, a criminal case was instituted against Abam Khizriev, a perpetrator of the road traffic accident. "The case has been already brought to court for consideration on the merits. And what they say about swallowed spoon is all lie," the source has clarified.
