Athlete from North Ossetia wins for Russia silver medal at London Olympic Games

Svetlana Tsarukaeva, World Champion in weightlifting of 2011, a native of North Ossetia, wins for the Russian team the first silver medal of the Olympic Games, held in London.

Today, Svetlana Tsarukaeva, competing in the weight category of up to 63 kg, showed the result of 237 kg (112+125).

Maya Maneza from Kazakhstan won a steady victory and set the Olympic record 245 kg; she failed to beat the world record in the clean and jerk. The bronze medal went to Christine Girard, the athlete from Canada (236), the "Ves Sport" (All Sports) reports.

It was the first day of weightlifting at the Olympic Games, when representatives of the Russian national team participated in the competitions.

At present, the national team of the Russian Federation has two gold, one silver, and four bronze medals, the RIA "Novosti" reports.
