Death of a local after detention by police investigated in Kalmykia

On May 10, an intoxicated man, who was hospitalized with traumas from the on duty unit of the local department of the Russian MIA, died in an Elista hospital, said a source from law enforcement bodies of Kalmykia.

According to his story, a certain A. Semyonov, an unemployed local, born in 1964, was brought to the detention room of the on duty unit in Elista for appearance drunken in public place and causing damage to citizens' property.

The source said that the man began striking his head against the floor and injured himself. The policemen immediately stopped the action of the detainee; after which he was taken to hospital and soon died there.

In the context of the incident, a service check is conducted, the RBC reports.
