In Dagestan, rally "For Fair Elections" gathers about 700 residents of Tabasaran District

Today, about 700 people took part in the rally "For Fair Elections" held in the village of Khuchni, Tabasaran District of Dagestan. After the event, opposition candidates have submitted applications to the Territorial Election Commission (TEC) to withdraw their candidates from the elections for deputies of the District Assembly.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the organizer of the rally was the Tabasaran Anti-Corruption Committee. It was planned that the rally will be about four thousand strong.

The organizers of the rally and its participants said about numerous violations at the elections held on December 4, 2011, and pointed out that gross violations are already committed at preparing for the upcoming presidential election in Russia and elections of Deputies of the District Assembly to be held on March 4, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"In protest against the fact that there is no way to hold fair elections, all the candidates from the opposition have submitted their applications to the TEC," said Kazikhan Kurbanov, a member of the Anti-Corruption Committee.

He also said that after the March 4 election they "will again convoke a rally and protest again against election violations."
