The accused of murdering Markelov receive life imprisonment and 18 years in colony

A verdict was passed at today's session of the Moscow City Court on the murder case of Stanislav Markelov and Anastasia Baburova. At 11:32 a.m., the court sentenced Tikhonov to life imprisonment in a special security colony; and Khasis - to 18 years of imprisonment in a minimum security colony, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports from the courtroom.

In the course of announcing the verdict, with many court marshals surrounding the "cage" with the prisoners' dock inside, Tikhonov and Khasis stood holding each other's hands; they were handcuffed. The courtroom housed plenty of journalists and law enforcers.

The lawsuit of the Baburov family was found eligible to satisfaction: 2,040,000 roubles will be collected from Tikhonov.

There were no representatives of the suffered party - Mikhail Markelov and the Baburovs - in the courtroom was not.

The defendants' advocates plan to appeal against the verdict - Alexander Vasiliev and Gennady Nebritov have already filed their cassation appeals.
