In Dagestan, main problems of children-orphans are housing, higher education and search of work

On December 16, Makhachkala hosted a sitting of the Expert's Board under the Ombudsperson of Dagestan with participation of the Ombudsperson's office, prosecutors, power bodies and public organizations. The agenda included the problems faced by children-orphans, who breaks their rights and how to help this category of population.

According to Ummupazil Omarova, Dagestan Ombudsperson, most complaints and applications that arrive from children-orphans have to do with implementing their housing rights. According to her story, in some regions of Dagestan cases have been revealed, when children-orphans were refused registration as the persons in need of housing. Orphans often complain that the queue would not move for years.

"Another pack of problems faced by children-orphans has to do with their training at higher schools, where they should be completely maintained by the state. But sometimes only after interference of the Ombudsperson we can succeed in restoring their broken rights," Ms Omarova said.

She has added that providing jobs to orphans should be a priority; however, nobody addresses the problem at the employment services.
