Terek Cossacks want to restore Terek Region
On July 7, at the Terek Cossack Circle (Assembly) in Vladikavkaz, Cossack Atamans raised the idea to restore the enlarged North-Caucasian Region in the form of the Terek Region that existed in the tsarist Russia. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by Mikhail Inkavtsov, Ataman of the Terek Cossack Army.
According to his story, in tsarist time the Terek Region was a very rich territory. It managed to maintain itself and annually brought two million gold roubles into the state treasury. Then, Bolsheviks came, liquidated the Region and gave birth to an array of territorial problems.
"Now, all the subjects of Northern Caucasus are deficient and donated by the federal centre. They are in deep social and economic crisis and governed by clannish power systems," said Mr Inkavtsov. In his opinion, the republics of Northern Caucasus should be recognized as bankrupts and put under external management.
Now, the lawyers of the Terek Cossack Army prepare an application to the State Duma on this issue. According to Cossacks, the Terek Region should incorporate Kabardino-Balkaria, Chechnya, Ingushetia, North Ossetia, Dagestan and a part of Stavropol Territory.
