The Grozny suicide bomber was a prominent athlete

Beslan Chagiev, the terrorist-suicide-bomber who blew himself up on May 15 near the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of the Chechen Republic in Grozny, some time ago was a well-known wrestler. The reasons on Chagiev's suicide are still unclear.

"I tried to find anything about Chagiev and possible motives of his act, and found something interesting. According to my data obtained with the help of my friends from power agencies, the terror act at the building of Chechen MIA was committed by Chagiev, Beslan Savarbekovich, born in 1968, a native of Kazakhstan, registered in Krasnoyarsk since 1985, who until recently lived in Ordzhonikidzevskaya village, Sunzha District of Ingushetia. He came there from Turkey, where he worked as a coach in free-style wrestling," leader of one of local human rights organizations said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"And so, this very Beslan Chagiev in the past was a well-known Russian sportsman. He was Master of Sports in Greco-Roman wrestling, winner of many competitions, at the international level inclusive. He had higher education - in 1993 he graduated from the Sports department of the Krasnoyarsk Teacher's Institute," said the source.

"It's not clear yet how Chagiev got to Turkey, what he had done in Ingushetia before that and why power agents treated him almost as Doku Umarov's 'right hand'. Also, it is not clear what set him on committing this terror act," the human rights activist said.

In his opinion, Chagiev could have some personal motives, and, probably, tried to take his personal revenge on some high-ranking officials of Chechen MIA.

"But it's just my personal opinion. The statements of MIA's bosses that Chagiev planned some 'resonant' terror act, tried to make his way into the MIA building and so forth, to my mind, are not too convincing," the source of the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has noted.

Power agencies of Chechnya refrain from any comments to this end, same as from answering the question whether they have any data about Chagiev's involvement in operations in the territory of the Chechen Republic.
