States call Russia to inquire into Magomed Evloev's death

The USA urge Russian leaders to conduct a complete investigation of the circumstances around the death of Magomed Evloev, owner of the oppositional website "Ingushetia.Ru", Sean McCormack, spokesman of the US Department of State, said in a briefing.

"The case is causing great concern," Mr McCormack said. "We go on collecting data and facts about it, however, one thing is already obvious: the man was officially under arrest and got a shot in his head."

In their turn, the authorities of Ingushetia go on insisting that Magomed Evloev's death was accidental. Thus, according to the prosecutor's office, after arrival from Moscow to the airport of the city of Magas, Mr Evloev was detained, since militiamen had an order to bring him to the city militia department in connection with the case, where he was a witness but failed to appear when summoned.

"While Evloev was transported in a police car to the inspector for interrogation, a quarrel burst out between him and militiamen, presumably, because Evloev saw his relatives driving behind the car. During the quarrel, most likely, a random shot occurred," Ahmet Kokursaev, acting head of the press service of Ingush prosecutor's office, told the RIA "Novosti" today, having noted that Evloev died from that accidental shot.
