Stomakhin's defenders mark two years of his arrest

On March 21, a picket was held in Moscow in defence of Boris Stomakhin, the author of the Chechen separatists' website "Kavkaz-Centre", who was sentenced to 5 years of colony for kindling interethnic enmity and extremism. The action was dated to the second anniversary of journalist's arrest.

The picket took place in the Lubyanka Square near the Solovki Boulder - the monument to victims of political repressions - from 6 to 7 p.m. More than 15 persons took part.

The picket was sanctioned by the Prefecture; therefore, militiamen only copied the texts of the posters, but did not interfere into the action. The Moscow-based organization "Democratic Union" was the organizer of the picket.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Elena Sannikova, coordinator of the group in defence of Stomakhin and former political prisoner, that in the near future the Judicial Panel on Criminal Cases of the Nizhniy Novgorod Regional Court will consider the cassation complaint against the refusal of the Regional Court to apply the early-conditional release to the convict.
