Kocharyan and Sarkisyan discuss situation in Armenia with Peter Semneby

On March 3, President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan received Peter Semneby, Special Representative of the European Union for South Caucasus. During the meeting, they discussed the post-election processes in Armenia, in particular, the situation in Yerevan and possible ways out of it. This is the news of the press service of the President of Armenia.

Robert Kocharyan has assured that the authorities are going to take all possible measures for settlement of the situation and restoration of the normal rhythm of life in the capital. According to the President, everything that has happened in Armenia has nothing to do with politics; it is just a criminal offence, which needs to deal with in detail. He has also noted that those guilty should answer in law.

In his turn, Peter Semneby has expressed his hope that everything possible will be done to ease the today's tension.

The EU Special Representative has also met Serzh Sarkisyan, Prime Minister and newly elected President.

According to the information of the Ministry of Public Health of Armenia, the number of those who suffered as a result of clashes made 131 persons, of whom 58 persons are militaries and policemen. As of March 3, 59 victims of clashes were still kept in medical institutions of Yerevan.

The law enforcement bodies of Armenia have arrested 30 participants of disorders.

  • Court denies compensation to KBR convict for HIV infection

    The Oktiabrsky District Court of Novorossiysk has dismissed Yuri Mikhailov's lawsuit for compensation for the fact that after staying in jails in Novorossiysk and in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), he was infected with HIV and hepatitis. This was reported by his advocate, Svetlana Toreeva.
