General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia initiates a criminal case against Levon Ter-Petrosyan

The State Office of Public Prosecutor of Armenia has informed that Levon Ter-Petrosyan, ex-candidate for the president and leader of the opposition, is a figurant in the case about mass disorders in Yerevan on March 1.

According to the "Interfax", the State Office of Public Prosecutor of Armenia has initiated several criminal cases against Levon Ter-Petrosyan under the articles on violent seizure of power, breach of constitutional order and mass disorders.

The police of Armenia has arrested MP Myasnik Malkhasyan, a member of the faction of the ruling Republican Party and Deputy Chairman of the Union of Volunteers (Erkrap). The supporter of Levon Ter-Petrosyan is accused of provoking mass disorders in Yerevan at night on March 1.

"Malkhasyan was detained at night on March 2 at about 5:00 a.m. at an attempt to escape from a taxi. At his personal search a metal rod some 55.5 cm long was detected," the IA "News-Armenia" reports with a reference to the Republic's Police.

Mr Malkhasyan was arrested under attributes of Article 300 of the Criminal Code of Armenia ("Usurpation of state power") and delivered in the investigatory isolation facility (SIZO).
