Sydoruk: militants received $1.5 million on destabilization of the situation in Northern Caucasus

Terrorists have received over one and a half million US dollars for destabilization of the situation in Northern Caucasus before the forthcoming parliamentary elections, and the law enforcement bodies failed to block the channels of funding the militants.

The "Interfax" reports that this statement was made today by Ivan Sydoruk, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation for the South Federal District (SFD), at the sitting of the committee for judicial-legal matters of the Federation Council.

Meanwhile, in total, during the last year 34 terror acts and 550 terrorist-like crimes have been committed in the SFD territory. Thus, as a whole, according to Mr Sydoruk, the analysis of the situation in this region evidences a decrease in the count of terror acts.

Ivan Sydoruk believes that one of the main sources of extremism and terrorism in the SFD are numerous social problems, and, first of all, a high unemployment rate.
