About 300,000 came to the meeting in Georgia

About three hundred thousand persons rallied to the action of the opposition in front of the building of the Parliament of Georgia. The action has united all the opposition parties, except for the "New Right-Wingers".

About one hundred thousand people who represent all the layers of the population and think themselves to be the victims of the actions of the authorities have arrived to the action: here we see representatives of the liquidated Academy of Sports, the Lilo Fair, dispersed traders from the Dry Bridge, writers, poets, workers of arts, pensioners, doctors, pupils, students, relatives of the victims of special operations.

Although it is already dark, the crowd would not disperse. We can discern posters saying: "Say no to repressions!", "We are not afraid!", "Georgia - without President!"

"About 300 persons arrived from Akhaltsikhe, but some 2,500 wanted to. But the majority could not come here because of restrictions in traffic, because they were taken away their transport and stopped the trains," activist Beso Bliadze told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The lecturer of the State Technical University David Amashukeli voices against Mikhail Saakashvili's power: "The today's situation is different from 2003. Then, there were social demands. Today, we already hear moral demands declared - we protest against murders and violence."

An ambulance and a police patrol car were on duty in each of the adjoining streets. Several persons felt bad from long stay in the crowd. The meeting is going on without excesses. There is no plenty of police. The patrol policemen have promised in their conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the safety of people at the meeting will be protected in every possible way.

We note here that the opposition puts forward three main demands: fair elections in conformity with the Constitution, Georgia should be a parliamentary republic, and violations of human rights should be stopped.
