E. Bekhbudov: tortures are still practised in Azerbaijan

Human rights activist Elchin Bekhbudov has reported to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that tortures are still applied in Azerbaijan, and all those guilty of these acts of atrocity should face the justice.

According to his information, during 6 months of this year, tortures were applied to 47 persons, three of them died. Forty-two persons were exposed to tortures at police stations, three - in military units, one - at the municipality of the Gubinskiy District, and one - by court marshals of the Neftchalinskiy District.

E. Bekhbudov has noted that according to the documents that he possesses people are tortured in secret cells, in studies of inspectors and operative agents, and they do it at night for nobody to hear. Suspects are mainly tortured at the stage of primary investigation - and innocent people are forced by tortures to write false confessions of the crimes they never committed.

As to the arrested journalists, Mr Bekhbudov has noted that he repeatedly visited Einullah Fatullaev, Rovshan Kebirli, Samir Sadagatoglu, Mirza Sakit and Yashar Agazade, but they never complained of their custody conditions and application of tortures.
