Peacemakers: situation in South Ossetia gets out of control

The situation in the Georgia-South Ossetia conflict zone is growing still tenser; it is deliberately aggravated and can get out of control. Lieutenant colonel Yuri Vereschak, commander's assistant of the Mixed Peacekeeping Forces (MPKF) in the Georgia-Ossetia conflict zone, has stated it today to the "Interfax."

"The MPKF Command insists on making an urgent decision to hold an immediate meeting of the Mixed Control Commission (MCC) co-chairmen for seeking the way out of the critical situation," the peacemakers emphasize.

However, according to Y. Vereschak, proposals to convoke a meeting of the MCC co-chairmen are finding no response among the parties.

The "Caucasian Knot" has already informed that during the latest days the situation in the Georgia-Ossetia conflict zone remains stably strained. Shelling of Tskhinval became more frequent, resulting in wounded and perished people, and roads are blocked; it is reported that buses with peaceful citizens are detained.

Besides, on July 1, residents of several villages of the Georgian Gori District blocked the highway running to Tskhinval in the vicinity of Ergneti village. They also demand to resume water supply to their irrigation canals, which had been blocked by South Ossetia's authorities.
