Newspapers "Real Azerbaijan" and "Gyundelik Azerbaijan" stopped

Shakhvaled Chobanoglu, Chief Editor of the newspaper "Real Azerbaijan," said in his talk with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he made a decision to suspend the newspapers without any pressure from aside. He added that the decision was made in protest against attacks of the authorities.

The Chief Editor has stated that now the stuff has nothing to continue both the "Real Azerbaijan" and "Gyundelik Azerbaijan" with - no equipment, no office and no funds: "Should the opportunities appear, the newspapers can be continued."

Sh. Chobanoglu has noted that the decision was not influenced either by E. Fatullaev or his parents. We remind you here that Fatullaev was convicted on April 20, 2007, on accusations of slander and commitment of especially grave crimes (Article 147.2 of the Criminal Code). Earlier, the convict's mother had stated that anonymous persons were calling her home demanding to stop the newspapers.

Mr. Chobanoglu has also informed that some of the stuff of the editorial board are going to apply to embassies of foreign states for granting them political asylum, because the authorities prevent them from exercising freely their profession.

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

  • In Volgograd, court recognizes absence of HIV therapy in prison hospital

    The Central District Court of Volgograd awarded prisoner Ruslan Mitrofan compensation in the amount of 1000 roubles, recognizing that the administration of a prison hospital in Volgograd violated the prisoner’s right to receive medical care by not providing him with an HIV medicine.
