ICPO: woman from North Ossetia killed by inadvertence in Ingushetia

The death of Lemka Batyrova, 54, a resident of Chermen village in North Ossetia, on April 7, when militiamen chased the persons suspected of hijacking a car, was caused by a gunshot wound in the breast area, and not by a road accident. This was reported by a source in the Investigatory Department (ID) of the Investigatory Committee at the Prosecutor's Office (ICPO) of the Russian Federation for Ingushetia.

The inspectors do not exclude that the woman could be killed by negligence of militiamen who opened fire trying to stop the car with suspects who wanted to escape.

"It was established that on April 7 at about 4:00 p.m. in the Moskovskaya Street, at an attempt to detain persons engaged in hijacking employees of the Nazran OVD started chasing a black VAZ-21115 car with unidentified people inside. When legally ordered by militiamen to stop, they tried to disappear," the ID of the ICPO for Ingushetia reports.

"As a result of warning shots made by militiamen, and subsequent firearm shots on the escaping car, the unidentified hijackers got into a road accident, crushing against a route bus, then, they left the car and disappeared from the place of the incident. At the same time, on the pedestrian crossing opposite the branch of the Savings Bank of Russia, Lemka Batyrova, 54, a resident of Chermen village, was found with a gunshot wound in her breast, from which she died on the way to the hospital," the Department reports.
