In Dagestan, sapper dies at demining gas main

Today in the morning, two explosive devices were detected in the Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan, on the main gas line "Mozdok-Kazimagomed". During demining one of them, a sapper was lost.

On February 27, a terror act was prevented on that very gas main. The security service of the "Kaspijgazprom" Company detected a black bag, half-hidden with ground, with wires protruding out. FSB agents and sappers confirmed in situ the presence of an explosive. Then, demining was successful.

The dispatcher of the Company "Gazpromtransgaz-Makhachkala" has reported that today explosives were detected in the 590th and 591st kilometres in the course of a detour of the security service at 6:20 a.m., as the ITAR-TASS reports.

At about 8:40 a.m., in the course of demining of one of them, an explosion took place, killing a sapper from the subdivision of the OMON (Special Police) of the Dagestan MIA, as the RIA "Dagestan" reports.

We remind you that on January 31, on the section of the main gas line "Mozdok-Kazimagomed", located near Manas village, Karabudakhkent District of Dagestan, a bomb with a clock device was detected. It looked like a zinc-coated bucket filled with 4 kilos of explosive. Supply of gas to the gas pipe section was temporarily stopped.

On September 23, 2008, a 6-meter-long section of this gas main was blown up. As a result of the incident, the Khasavyurt, Babayurt, Kizilyurt and Novolak Districts, and cities of Khasavyurt and Kizilyurt remained without gas. The delivery of natural gas to Azerbaijan was stopped. Experts of the "Kaspijgazprom" then called a diversion to be the main version of the explosion.
