Abkhazia refutes any role of Russian militaries in murdering Gali District resident

Today in the morning, in the suburb of Nabakevi village, Gali District of Abkhazia, local residents found a man's body with gunshot wounds. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed about it by Laurens Kogoniya, head of the Gali ROVD.

According to his story, the person of the casualty was established - Elgudzha Beraya, born in 1976, a resident of the village, who was searched by the Gali ROVD since 2006 for a number of armed assaults and murdering Abkhazian militiaman Fridon Dzhgerenai in the bottom zone of the Gali District.

According to the neighbours, today at night three men in masks came to Beraya's house and took him away in unknown direction. Some minutes later they heard shots near the house, and today in the morning, at about 11 a.m. Moscow time they found Elgudzha Beraya's body some 300 meters away from the house.

Laurens Kogoniya has stated that the information broadcast by the "Rustavi-2" TV Company that Beraya's body was found hung at the check point of Russian peacemakers with traces of torture, is "nothing but a bald lie, so typical for this company, although other Georgian media are also not prominent in their truthfulness."

According to Mr Kogoniya, there are no Russian militaries in Mabakevi, and the body had gunshot wounds only and no torture traces.

"Since 2006, when Beraya was announced into search by the Gali ROVD, he was hiding in the territory of Georgia, but periodically illegally crossed the Abkhazian border. However, we couldn't catch him, as the data about his crossing the border arrived late. Most likely, this time Beraya got into Abkhazia with the aim to commit another armed assault or explosion, but someone decided to settle scores with him," said Laurens Kogoniya.

We remind you that on November 30, 2005, between villages of Nabakevi and Tagiloni, Gali District, local residents detected a man's body with traces of violent death. Later it was established that it was the body of Fridon Dzhgerenai, a militiaman from Gali, who had disappeared on November 7, 2005. Then, Otar Khetsiya, Minister of Internal Affairs of Abkhazia, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he put all the responsibility for that murder on Georgian armed formations. The Minister had believed that Dzhgerenai, a Georgian by nationality, was, most likely, punished for his work for Abkhazian militia.
