Maskhadov threatens candidates in Chechen presidential campaign

The Ichkerian State Defense Committee headed by Aslan Maskhadov warned about "coming vengeance" on all the Chechen presidential candidates, according to the Committee's resolution published in the underground newspaper "Ichkeria".

Those to whom the warning is addressed are both current and former presidential candidates, including Akhmad Kadyrov, Hussein Jabrailov, Aslambek Aslakhanov, and Malik Saidulayev.

The list also includes Abdul-Kerim Arsakhanov, Chechen Election Commission Chairman, and Abdul-Khakim Sultygov, President Putin's special envoy for human rights in the Chechen Republic.

"The Sharia court has begun an investigation in respect of these traitors, after which sentencing will be imposed and carried out as soon as possible. No one will be able to escape it," the document states.

Maskhadov was elected President of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria in 1997.
