International community should help Russia to solve problem of displaced persons

The international community should help Russia to solve a problem of displaced persons in the Northern Caucasus. Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Internally Displaced Persons Francis Deng claimed it at a press-conference in Moscow. "The solution of the problem is a doubly interior act of each sovereign state", stressed Francis Deng. "But at the same time the international community's assistance to the governments of Russia, Chechnya, and Ingushetia will be a demonstration of good will and a sign of solidarity with people suffered", he added.

The UN envoy Francis Deng made a visit to Russia by the invitation of the Russian government on September 8-12, 2003. He visited Chechnya and Ingushetia and in Moscow met with Russian Minister Vladimir Zorin, Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov, Envoy of the Russian President for Human Rights and Freedoms in Chechnya Akhmed Sultygov, and the Federal Migration Service governing body.
