Krasnodar holds rally against renaming

At the rally held today in Krasnodar, over 200 persons moved a demand to the authorities to stop campaigning for return of the historical name - Ekaterinodar - back to the city.

"We think that there is no sense in renaming the city, and the main duties of the authorities are to strengthen the justice and take care of the public order, soften the crisis impacts and improve the welfare of all the layers of society, build new houses, kindergartens and schools, and repair roads," runs the text of the resolution adopted by the rally participants.

The "Yuga.Ru" Agency reports that residents had been invited to the rally by leaflets dropped into mailboxes, and those who came were given red balloons inscribed "For Krasnodar!"

The final resolution of the rally will be sent to President of Russia, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Speakers of Council of Federation and the State Duma, Governor of Kuban and the Chairman of the Kuban Legislative Assembly, and also to Mayor of Krasnodar and Speaker of the City Duma. The opponents of renaming plan to hold their next protest action in March.
