In Abkhazia, two frontier guards killed by explosion

Today, in Gali District of Abkhazia, two Abkhazian frontier guards were killed and two more wounded by explosion of a radio-controlled mine. Journalists were informed about the fact by Lavrentiy Mikvabiya, coordinator of power agencies of the Gali District.

According to his story, the incident took place today at about 3:00 p.m. Moscow time in the lower security zone of the Gali District of Abkhazia, in the village named Pichora. The frontier guards got blown up when patrolling the region. Abkhazian power agencies treat the incident as a terror act committed by Georgian special agents.

The wounded frontier guards were brought to the Sukhumi Military Hospital and operated on there; now their health condition is satisfactory.

According to Mr Mikvabiya, tonight at about 9:00 p.m. Moscow time a patrol unit of Russian peacekeeping forces was shelled in Rukhi village of the Zugdidi District of Georgia.

The column of the armoured troop-carriers, which were on patrol in the Southern Safety Zone, was overtaken by a Mercedes passenger car; unknown persons made a grenade launcher shot from the car and then disappeared immediately. Nobody suffered in the attack, but the bandits managed to escape, Lavrentiy Mikvabiya has added.
