Meeting of NATO MFA heads on Georgia to take place on August 19

The emergency meeting of the heads of Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the 26 NATO member-states on Georgia, convoked on the US initiative, will take place on Tuesday, August 19, in Brussels. It became known from sources in the Belgian capital.

Carmen Romero, assistant of the official spokesman of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, told journalists today about Washington's demand to convoke and extraordinary session of the NATO Board at the level of Ministers for Foreign Affairs.

As she said, Russia will not be invited.

Meanwhile, the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of the Treaty Organization of Collective Security (TOCS), comprised of leaders of former Soviet republics, POCS members, has condemned Georgia "for genocide against the Ossetian people" and stated that Tbilisi's warfare in South Ossetia have disrupted a potential political dialogue between the parties in conflict.

"Under the pretext of restoration of Georgia's territorial integrity, this country in fact executed genocide in relation to Ossetian people. All this has led to humanitarian catastrophe. The military actions undertaken by Tbilisi in breach of the potential political dialogue between the parties, have ruined the prospects of peaceful settlement of the conflict," the statement runs.

The members of the Council of the PA TOCS have declared that the entry of Russian troops into the territory of the non-recognized republic was an "emergency measure" aimed to protect the peaceful population and Russian peacekeepers.
