Rally in support of arrested MP held in the capital of Armenia

The court has ruled to extend for two more months the custody term of Akop Akopyan, Deputy of Armenian Parliament, who had supported the leader of the opposition Levon Ter-Petrosyan and was deprived of his deputy's immunity after the March 1 events. A protest action in support of Akopyan was held in Yerevan.

The "Gazeta.Ru" confirms that the protest action took place near the building of the court, where the verdict had been announced.

Also today, as the "ARMENIAToday" Agency reports, the custody term of another Deputy of Armenian Parliament - Myasnik Malkhasyan - has also been extended by two months. Both MPs are accused of organizing mass disorders on March 1.

We remind you that on June 11, Agvan Ovsepyan, General Public Prosecutor of the country, visited the pre-trial detention facility (SIZO) "Yerevan-Kentron" (former investigatory prison the KGB of the Armenian SSR), where he visited the arrested Armenian parliamentarians Myasnik Malkhasyan, Sasun Mikaelyan and Akop Akopyan, as well as his former deputy Gagik Dzhangiryan and Ararat Zurabyan, board chair of the Party "Armenian Nationwide Movement".

The press service of the State Office of Public Prosecutor has informed that during their talk with the General Public Prosecutor, the detainees noted that they did not complain of their custody conditions or of any health problems.
