Krasnodar journalists strive to release their colleague Sergey Rozhkov

Journalists of Krasnodar have sent an appeal to Alexei Simonov, President of the Foundation in Defence of Glasnost, with a request to inquire the Dean of Journalism Department of the Kuban State University and Chair of the Union of Journalists of Kuban, why they do nothing to release Sergey Rozhkov from custody. Besides, they suggest that Alexei Simonov take the case of their colleague from Tuapse under his personal control.

The appeal to Alexei Simonov, which was delivered in the evening on June 24 to the Moscow office of the Foundation in Defence of Glasnost, was signed by 16 employees of the city, regional and federal mass media.

The authors of the appeal ask Alexei Simonov to take the investigation related to Sergey Rozhkov under his monitoring. Now, the journalist remains behind bars, since the prosecutor's office of Tuapse thinks that he hid from investigation. To prove the opposite, the advocate needed a certificate from the Journalism Department of the Kuban State University that in the end of May Sergey Rozhkov defended his diploma work there. However, Nadezhda Kravchenko, the Dean of the Department, refused to issue such certificate.

We remind you that Tuapse journalist Sergey Rozhkov was detained on June 2, when he covered a protest action held at the administration building of the Tuapse District. Later, he was placed in the Tuapse pre-trial detention facility.
