Convicts of Cherkizovo marketplace explosion sentenced to imprisonment from two years to life term

The Moscow City Court has sentenced the eight defendants accused of exploding Cherkizovo marketplace to prison terms from two years to life-long term. The crime was committed on August 21, 2006, and took away 14 innocent lives.

Nikolai Korolev, Ilya Tikhomirov, Oleg Kostyrev and Sergey Klimuk were sentenced to life imprisonment, Valery Zhukovtsev and Nikita Senyukov - to 20 and 13 years of strict custody colony, respectively, and Dmitri Fedoseenkov and Nikolai Kachalov - to two years of general custody colony each.

The "Interfax" reports that the court has additionally appointed mandatory outpatient psychiatric treatment to Tikhomirov.

The investigation has established that apart from Cherkizovo explosion, the members of the nationalist group had committed a number of other crimes with use of the explosives that they made according to the recipes found in the Internet. The crimes include blowing up several trading points that belonged to Caucasian natives, and also a diversion act in the office of the Academy of Bioinformatics Problems and Psychological Help of prophetess Lillian.

Besides, defendant Nikolai Senyukov was found guilty of murdering Armenian student Vigen Abramyants in "Pushkinskaya" metro station in 2006.

  • Court denies compensation to KBR convict for HIV infection

    The Oktiabrsky District Court of Novorossiysk has dismissed Yuri Mikhailov's lawsuit for compensation for the fact that after staying in jails in Novorossiysk and in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), he was infected with HIV and hepatitis. This was reported by his advocate, Svetlana Toreeva.
