In Dagestan, editor-in-chief of the "Dagestanians" newspaper acquitted

Today, the Leninskiy Federal Court of the capital of Dagestan has finished the trial of Alisultan Gazimagomedov, editor-in-chief of the "Dagestanians" newspaper.

A criminal case against Alisultan Gazimagomedov was initiated in 2007 on charges of slander on Alimsoltan Alkhamatov, head of the municipal formation "Khasavyurt District". During the debate of the parties, the state prosecutor demanded to sentence the editor-in-chief to three years of imprisonment, but Federal Judge Magomednabi Isaibov has acquitted the defendant.

In his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent Mr Gazimagomedov has noted that the incident happened two years ago when the newspaper received a letter to President of Dagestan Mukhu Aliev written by deputies of the District Assembly of Khasavyurt Khabib Labazanov, Yaresh Visaitov and Makhach Magomedov. The letter telling about alleged numerous violations admitted by the head of the municipal formation "Khasavyurt District" was published by the newspaper.
