Coalition of Georgian NGOs condemns persecutions on Ter-Petrosyan's supporters in Armenia

The Coalition of Nongovernmental Organizations of Georgia has passed a petition in support of the Armenian people and condemned repressions against supporters of Levon Ter-Petrosyan in Armenia.

This support was voiced by representatives of Georgian NGOs at the press conference held in the "Sheraton Metekhi Palace" on March 6. The petition addressed to the international community comprises an appeal to punish the Armenian law enforcement bodies, assist in releasing oppositional politicians, cancel the state of emergency introduced in the territory of Armenia, investigate the violations that took place during the election and democratize Armenian mass media.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent informs that Lasha Chkhartishvili, one of the leaders of the NGO named "The Equality Institute", has condoled with the casualties' families and assigned the responsibility for committed crimes and murders to the Armenian authorities.

"The dispersal of the peaceful oppositional rally in Armenia resulted in 8, by official data, and 20, according to other sources, casualties. We express our concern with these events - the dispersal with the use of firearms, and we think that they are dangerous both for Armenia and for stability in the whole region," Mr Chkhartishvili has declared.

Nino Tsikhisdziri, a representative of the "Women's Network of Caucasus", has thanked the workers of Georgian mass media for presenting information about the events in Armenia.

"It's very difficult to know what really happens there. <...> In some districts of Armenia, the Internet doesn't work, and mobile telephony is blocked," she said.
