Abkhazia applies to UN and Parliaments for recognition

Today, the Parliament of Abkhazia has passed two appeals with a demand to recognize the state independence of the Republic of Abkhazia. One appeal is addressed to the Federation Council and State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, and the second one - to the Secretary General of the United Nations, state leaders and parliaments of the CIS members and countries of the world.

The appeal to the UN Secretary General and parliaments of the world contains a proposal "to recognize the Republic of Abkhazia as an independent and sovereign state and to establish mutually beneficial relations with the Republic of Abkhazia."

The Parliament of the Republic of Abkhazia has stated that "the development process of the independent democratic state of Abkhazia and its international recognition are irreversible."

"Acquisition of state independence by Abkhazia has deep and objective historical preconditions and is a political expression of the achieved level of national consolidation, social-economic and cultural development of the Abkhazian people. The people of Abkhazia see the opportunity of further progress, utmost satisfaction of their needs and strategic support of national safety only in the conditions of an independent state," the appeal runs.
