Abkhazian journalists ask Bagapsh to release their Georgian colleagues

Today, a group of Abkhazian journalists have addressed the President of Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh with a request to release the Georgian journalists detained in the Galskiy District.

"While understanding the refusal of the authorities to hold dialogue with Georgia who demands liberation of its journalists in the ultimative manner, we nevertheless ask you to release the Georgian journalists, in order to show once again to the world the readiness of Abkhazia to follow the civilized behaviour standards," the appeal runs.

According to the authors of the document, "last year, by releasing Georgian students without any preconditions, Abkhazia had already demonstrated its adherence to high humanism and respect of human rights."

"In response, we saw an unprecedented severe attack of the Georgian party on the Abkhazian training camp on the Khodzhal mount in the Tkuarchal District, where two officers were shot dead and defaced, and 7 young soldier were captured. Literally one of these days, three Abkhazian militiamen were heavily wounded in an act of terror," Abkhazian journalists emphasize.

We remind you, that in the evening on Saturday, March 1, Abkhazia received an appeal from representatives of 16 mass media of Georgia with a request to help to release Malkhaz Basilaya, a Georgian journalist detained in the Galskiy District.
