Azerbaijan brings a draft resolution on Nagorno-Karabakh to the United Nations

A draft resolution "Situation in Occupied Territories of Azerbaijan" was prepared by the Azerbaijani Republic and brought to the United Nations.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, the document moves a demand of unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the "occupied territories of Azerbaijan."

At the same time, the draft resolution states the necessity to set up the respective conditions for normal residence in the future of the Armenian and Azerbaijani communities of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The draft contains references to 4 Resolutions of the UN Security Council, which had stated the need to withdraw Armenian armed forces from the Azerbaijani territories. These Resolutions were adopted in 1993.

Besides, Azerbaijan calls on the United Nations to assist in setting up an effective governance in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The draft resolution that was brought to the United Nations assumes to discuss the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh at the 63rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly to begin in September 2008. Currently, the work is underway to ensure the necessary support to the document at the UN General Assembly.
