Chechnya's Prosecutor's Office demands to close foreign NGO branch

The Prosecutor's Office of the Chechen Republic demands to liquidate the branch of the organization "Peacekeeping and Social Development Centre", located in Grozny. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt about it today.

According to the Prosecutor's Office of the Chechen Republic, the reason was a rough violation by the branch of the regulations in force about the order of opening and operating a representative office of foreign companies, banks and organizations.

"The branch of the company 'Peacekeeping and Social Development Centre', opened in Grozny, was registered in 2004-2005, thereafter the accreditation term was not extended," the employees of the Prosecutor's Office say.

In the course of the prosecutor's inspection, the branch's indebtedness was also revealed in payment of taxes and penalties to the state in the sum of 486,569 roubles.

The "Peacekeeping and Social Development Centre" is a Russian-British NGO, which sees its basic mission is distribution of ideas and values of peacekeeping and non-violent settlement of conflicts. The main activities of the Organization include the work in the area of human rights, non-violence, social development and humanitarian help. Except for the Grozny representative office, the Organization has its offices in Great Britain, Moscow, Nazran, Nalchik, Makhachkala and Cherkessk.
