Georgia lifts the state of emergency

The state of emergency has been lifted in Georgia. The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports about broadcasting of information programs of TV Companies "Rustavi-2", "Mze" (Sun) and others, except for the "Imedi" (Hope) TV and Radio Company.

In the context of cancellation of the state of emergency in the country, President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili made his comments to Georgian and foreign mass media, the Public Television reports.

The meeting with journalists was held at the Tbilisi Airport before the President's departure to Batumi where he will meet the Prime Minister of Bulgaria.

"The state of emergency was introduced eight days ago because the capital of Georgia had become the venue of mass disorders and violent actions, which threatened to grow into still broader disorders. But today, complete order has been restored in Georgia," Mr Saakashvili said.

The President has thanked all the citizens for their restraint: "They've confirmed once again in the eyes of the world that we are a nicely-organized, democratic and peaceful people, nation and state."

According to Mikhail Saakashvili, from today on, all the restrictions on political activity, which had been nominal even before, are completely removed.
