Kabardino-Balkaria: trial on Nalchik attack postponed till January 11

The trial on the case about the militants' attack on Nalchik, the capital of Kabardino-Balkaria, on October 13, 2005, has been postponed till January 11.

The "Gazeta.Ru" reports that the break has been done after the defendants' petition on exclusion from the case files of the evidences obtained through violation of the Code of Criminal Procedure (violence, torture). The state prosecutors asked the court to give them a month for preparing their motivated opinion.

We remind you that today the court has held its third session of the closed-mode process. The two previous sessions discussed the issue of providing advocates to the defendants, since a number of lawyers had refused to take part in the case.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learnt from well-informed sources that the refusals were caused by the fact that the royalties to the advocates provided by the state were almost halved. New lawyers have entered the case, and they need time to get acquainted with the materials. Besides, there are two cases when defendants had rejected their advocates.

During the two first sessions the lawyers kept complaining of the search they were subjected to and the ban to communicate with their clients.
